Assist with MDD sleep issue, please
#1
I am using Dual 867 MDD as hard drive storage access for my Intel iMac over network through gigabit switch and router. I pulled the USB 2.0 card, zapped PRAM, etc. , but it won't go to sleep as per the Energy Saver settings. Any advice, clues ?

This seems like one of those kinds of situations where there is a possibility that a Safe Boot - restart and hold down the "shift" key after you hear the startup bong - might clear up the problem. It may be a long shot but it's easy to do so it might be worth a shot.

Has anything been added to it? I thought there were some sleep issues with add on USB2 PCI cards. My MDD eas finicky about RAM.

What's the point of putting a server to sleep?

Thanks for the link, PeterW - very helpful. ... and if you had a MDD ( Wind Tunnel ) you would know why sleep is good. The server is only accessed occasionally.

Issue resolved. I booted from an earlier OS X version which did not require indexing, which was keeping the machine from sleeping.

Open the Energy Saver Pref and make sure the Wake on Ethernet... is checked or once asleep, always asleep.
