Just curious now...
Is it one or two spaces after a colon? I mean in a single spacer way of thinking.

Using uppercase letters in certain instances is a matter of convention. Using punctuation is a matter of convention. Convention is not the same as universal right or wrong. Convention can and does change over time. It's still only convention.
At some point, the extra space after a period was deemed (by somebody or body?) redundant, and was dropped. That is convention changing. Convention.
Some posters here use no uppercase letters and little or no punctuation. Except for those who might type in all caps or don't use paragraphs, I can deal with the chaos. After that, an extra space after a period is a walk in the park.
If I were currently in school and an instructor or professor took issue with my extra space and advised me it would affect my grade, I'd certainly adapt. Otherwise, it's just not worth the effort.

What, exactly, do poor grammar, misspelled words, and using all caps have to do with the amount of white space after a period?
I assume you're being facetious, because the alternative is that you're being an ass...

Spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization - it's all just convention, right? As such, all subject to interpretation, according to some contributions to this thread. After all, you were able to clearly ascertain the meaning of my statement, right? Isn't that what's important - the clarity of the message?

Reading the blog it says:
The new edition of the Publication Manual recommends that authors include two spaces after each period in draft manuscripts.
Which is accepted practice for draft manuscripts. Draft on dot matrix, which is what the writer is discussing, was monospaced. Therefore the two-space style is acceptable. The author does not address typeset, computer-wordprocessed text.

By George, I think you've got it.
Given your aforementioned and my previous post, and the topic at hand, whether or not one chooses to use one or two spaces after a period should not throw someone else into a tizzy. It's not the same as a care not running because a piston was incorrectly inverted, or somebody getting an overdose because a decimal was incorrectly placed.
It's a matter of somebody choosing to follow a different convention.
I'm glad we got that straightened out.

Is there a difference between "authoritative" and authoritative?
Doesn't the use of quotations diminish the seriousness of the search for an authoritative source?
If someone chose to encapsulate the word "authoritative" in special quotes, I'd think something fishy was going on.
I'd conclude that they didn't really want an authoritative source, but instead wanted a "wink wink" "authoritative" source.
You can find lots of "wink wink" "authoritative" sources at the MacResource Forum!
