Why are some (Jabra only?) BT earpieces earhook not securely attached?
#1
I have a couple of Jabra BT ear thingies.

Does anyone else have these or similar and think the design of the hook that goes around one's ear is dubious at best?

The hook ...

just inserts into the top of a part on the earpiece. So, often times my whole BT device can and does just drop off the bottom of the hook's post. Being that there is nothing in the design to keep retention between the pieces, I find this odd.

I like the device save for this one design oddity/flaw. Anyone else?

There are lots of different designs.

I have a Plantronics Voyager 520 and its earhook / earloop appears to be permanently attached. It also has an ingenious swivel mechanism that allows it to be rotated to be worn on either ear.

I also have a Jawbone II and its earhook just slips into a hole. It's reasonably secure but the earhook and hole are both keyed and it forces the earhook to an angle that is all wrong (for my ear) which in turn tries to pull the earpiece out of my ear.

Dunno why it's designed that way... It might be designed to easily come off to switch between positions for the left and right ear.

I had a Motorola headset that worked like that and not only did it fall off of my ear, but also the speaker constantly shifted away from my ear when I moved my head. It was very annoying.

The only BT headsets that I use any more are the banana-shaped Jabras with the in-ear gel thingies. They are the most comfortable headsets that I've ever used, they always sound loud and clear and I never had a problem with one falling out of my ear.

To switch ears. The larger Jabra's curl around your ear. I prefer the Plantronics models so far. Like AllGold said, I like that ear-switching mechanism.

no. the ability to switch ears is not contingent upon this earhook being easily removed from the device. That only needs the rotation of the round piece, and the swivel of the earhook within the round piece. It could be more sturdily attached with a screw on the bottom where the earhook meets the round piece. No need for it to be able to just slip through and out of the round piece.
