Yes, that's the one thing I absolutely despise about web-accessed Gmail: they force you to use the threaded/conversation view. At least for me, it's so confusing. That's why I was wondering if you use Apple Mail, if it can get rid of the threaded view.
If you unselect 'organize by thread' under View they are displayed 'flat'.

Okay, that's kinda what I was looking to find out. What if you have one email that's part of a thread, but you've filed it away in "archive" or "all mail" and another email that's part of the same thread in your "inbox." How does it handle that?
