Ah, the familiar taste of the Apple Kool-Aid.
I assure you, the piss-poor performance of Flash on Macs a big deterrent for those who haven't learned to love the taste of said Kool-Aid. And them, they don't care whose fault it is, and they don't want the technical details, let alone a history of Flash, they just want their YouTube video of the cute duckies. It would be nice if Adobe fixed Flash and if Apple's cut-throat grandstanding makes them do it, fine by me, especially since I can't afford an iPad. However, I won't be recommending an iPad to anyone because I don't want the calls about how they can't watch their cute duckie video.

MysteryGuest is no doubt thinking about people like my mom's friend or my sister, who can never resist emailing links to Flash-based eCards with dogs that sing and other cute things. And that's fine. That stuff is content people want to share, and content recipients want to see, and no worse artistically than whatever YouTube has on its home page any day of the week.
When you think about it, it's a strange sort of "non-difference," but YouTube was an easy thing to target for Apple. They were lucky to some extent Google agreed to make available a Flash alternative for them. Then again, this is as much Google's fight as it is Apple's. Perhaps in the nest few months things will heat up over there as well. |
