70/70 Relative Humidity Q
#1
I've got a cigar humidor located in my basement. During the summers, it's not a problem keeping the basement around 68F, but during the summers, it's a difficulty keeping it that warm. Currently, with the wintry weather, the basement hovers around 55F - great for my wines, but not ideal for the cigars.

I have a humidifier which can spew out a great amount of water and a calibrated hygrometer/thermometer to measure the environment. If the ideal conditions for cigar storage are 70% humidity at 70F, what is the ideal humidity percentage for temperatures in the 50s?

I should note that I have a rather large humidor (it's a walk-in) that prevents me from simply moving it to a warmer (upstairs) part of the house.

Hoping that someone here will know the ratios or perhaps can direct me to an online resource with charts that delineate the proper humidity per temperature.

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry that much about stuff that KILLS you. maybe it's good karma if the cigars go bad and you don't smoke them Smile

"You should also remember that for every drop in degree of temperature, you need to boost the humidity to maintain the ideal level. Some people ask if it's OK to store their cigars in a 55-degree wine cellar. In theory, there's nothing wrong with that temperature; it will prevent the hatching of any tobacco beetles; at worst, it will simply slow down the aging process of the cigar. But at that temperature, you would need about 80 percent humidity to keep the cigars in smokable condition. "

space time-

Excuse me if you meant your post in good humor. My bad.

As someone who has enjoyed cigars now for over fifteen years, I've heard more than my share of people pontificating about how I should live my life. Apologies for lumping you in with them.

Thanks cbelt3 for the info. Looks like I missed that one.
