The seats were a lot better/bigger, you get to board/deplane first, and they serve you snacks/drinks the whole trip. We got a deal on the tickets, from a relative who had purchased some at a silent auction, so it actually cost less than coach and was a lot nicer. If it was for a short 1-2 hour trip, it might not be worth it, but for a cross country flight it was great. Also, you get a special check-in line at the airport. The day we left there must have been 100 plus people in the regular line and NO ONE in the Business Class line. We were checking bags, which was free because of being Business Class, and what would have taken maybe an hour took about 5 minutes. ![]() Whippet, Whippet Good

It's nice. Big seats, free booze, decent snacks. Unfortunately no free wifi, though. $69 seems a little steep for the upgrade, though (then again, I'm in their frequent flyer program and used to getting upgraded for free).

If you have a couple bags to check it could even save you money. I upgraded on a short flight just to try it out once and I figure I came out ahead figuring in the cost of the drinks and how much it would have cost to check the bags.

I like AirTran a lot. The one thing I don't think you get with the upgrade on longer flights is meal service - just nicer and more snacks. The majors usually kick in a meal if you are on a cross-country flight.
Seats are comparable to those in the front on other major airlines' single aisle jets. AirTran only has DC 9/MD 80/717s and 737s. No widebodies with lie-flat seats or entertainment systems. As mentioned, it's not a bad deal if you have bags to check. Good luck. - Winston

more than one bag and paying for drinks sounds like it would be more expensive for the "cheaper" ticket with the small seat.
