Apple is about to come out with FireWireless. No need for USB3

I'll abandon firewire when they come up with "USB Target Disk Mode".

Until then? I'm keeping my Firewire.

That's not to say that I wouldn't augment my capabilities with some USB 3 stuff ALSO... but not getting rid of Firewire, and not buying a Mac without it.

How the heck do testers squeeze 35MB/s out of USB 2.0?!

USB 2 has sucked on Macs since they enabled it, but has gotten significantly faster since the change to Intel machines. In Windows I believe the USB drivers are in a less constrained part of the OS. I have not had the hardware and time to play, but you will likely get faster USB performance if you boot a MacBook Pro into Windows and run some benchmarks.

Barefeats showed over 30 MB/s in 2008.

Okay, anybody still want to stick with FW800 at 80 MB/s?

Judging by the new MacBook Pros, Apple does.

Apple will come out with USB 3.0 on their Systems the day USB 4.0 is released. They they will give us FW 1600 because "IT IS BETTER". We will then pay a premium for FW 1600 to find out 3 months later than they are no longer supporting FW 1600 and due to issues with USB 3.0 they are going to "choke" the performance a little bit or better yet, release their new Intel machines with USB 2 instead of USB 3.0... Oh, and seeing FW 1600 isn't on their current systems they will be dropping support for the previous systems on OS 10.8...

Haa haa.

barefeet's tests for USB 3.0 is very impressive... Me want!

again, Apple helped usher in USB as an early adopter. Then, fell behind.

Is that a Mac laptop?

Sadly no. I have not bought any Apple branded devices in several years because of the Marketing Department dictating (what I see as ridiculous) hardware configurations/limitations like only 2 USB ports.

I would tell people to get ready to give up on FireWire with Light Peak in the wings. I wonder if there will be LP Target Disk Mode... :dunno:
