confused and dazed about drives
#1
My history: I purchased one Ultra ATA drive for a G5 tower before I realized that it takes only SATA internally.

So then, I see this deal on what the posted listed as a Western Digital SATA drive
http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/957...#msg-96122

but when you go to the website, it turns into a Western Digital 300GB Internal EIDE/Ultra ATA Hard Drive.

My question: huh? or better put, is an EIDE/Ultra ATA the same thing as a SATA drive? or, more to the point, will the one on sale at Staples this week work in my G5 tower?

Thanks.

The poster of the deal was mistaken - the drive is an EIDE/ATA drive, not SATA and, no, the two are not the same thing. It's not a drive that will just plug-and-play in a G5 Tower. Keep looking for a real SATA drive for your G5.

yup, the poster was just mistaken

newegg has excellent deals on SATA drive, but they come "bare" no retail box. doenst bother me (less trash) and you dont need anything extra to install another drive into your G5 (instructions on page 11 of your manual)

the G5s have taken SATA since day one, if that matters
