Speaking of TechTool - AppleCare no longer provides download?
#1
It seems Apple has puled the plug on TechTool Deluxe - it is no longer available via download for AppleCare customers, even though it is referenced in the printed AppleCare Guide:

"You may also download the latest version of TechTool Deluxe and create your own bootable CD. To download TechTool Deluxe, goto www.apple.com/support/techtooldeluxe/. You will be asked to enter your computer’s serial number to validate your AppleCare Protection Plan coverage."

http://www.apple.com/support/techtooldeluxe/ redirects to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4530 which does not even mention TechTool and the passage above has been removed from the PDF version of the "Getting Started" Guide, available at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Appl..._Guide.pdf

To be honest, I don't think I've really used the program since OS 9 but it seems odd Apple would pull it with no explanation to customers that expect that bootable CD option to still be available as a part of AppleCare.

That 3.x version they included with my MacBook was pretty useless anyway.

And I've never really seen 5.x do anything spectacular that DiskUtility didn't do. So DiskWarrior is still my main defense.

Same here. I do use Onyx to cleane stuff up (and it does handle a host of issues), but I stopped using these more HD utilities when I switched over to OS X back in Jaguar days.
