Any1 Using Santa Rose MBP?
#1
I'm typing this on a nearly 4 year-old Santa Rosa MBP - the one with an extended Apple warranty due to graphics issues.

I've now twice experienced major graphics failures in the past week (half of the screen goes blank) with major crashes that required me to do some OS repair to get this working again. I'm still on the original mother board.

I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience? Any way I should try to stress out the machine to see if the issue is really hardware (and not just some flakiness elsewhere in the machine)?

Have you called Apple to see what they say? I sold mine to my sister and, knock on wood, no problems so far.

Just reinstalled the OS just to get going.

If it recurs, I'll call Apple then.

Right now, I suspect it'd pass all standard hardware tests.

I have one and thought I had the video issue. Turns out it was another issue and I got a depot repair that replaced the logic board, power board and the entire top case assembly for $300. I consider myself lucky.

If it's the video issue, the Genius will take it to the back and test for that specifically. That's what they did for mine when I had a couple of video flickers. I thought it was the onset of more serious problems.

I'm pretty sure that 'half the screen goes black' - is NOT a symptom of the recall issue, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to bring it in and get it checked out.

What to look for:

- Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen
- No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on
