iPhone vs Android

You can always get a refurbished iPhone4 and save $50 that way.

I've had an Android MyTouch for two years. Its my only phone and is on 24/7. Battery life is still great, all the apps I wanted were free (availability of ShaperWriter keyboard is a deal breaker for me), and my monthly bill is around $50/month cheaper than a comparable iPhone plan. The voice recognition and GPS guide is the one I rely on the most and its stellar.

The bad: since its two years old its slower than the current models and sometimes its inconsistent with the newer apps, like occasionally Car Mode is glacier and if I push the button an extra time or two it'll crash and it takes several minutes to reboot. Once or twice it shut itself off while in my pocket and I missed several calls. I've had to be careful about running apps to keep the battery from draining quickly.

So now I'm ready to upgrade and I'm trying to decide if its a good time to switch to an iPhone, especially since I'm grandfathered in with my plan, and AT&T is buying T-Mobile. That said, the phone is still serving all my needs.

I'm watching blackberry and early Android adopters migrate to the iPhone, especially now that it's on Verizon. And this is with the latest, super slick Android devices being released like the latest Galaxy S.

Seems to me, the main reasons to go android at this time - better google integration, and 4G. The first depends on the user, the second depends on the user and their local coverage. 4G is terrible here in MN, and non-existent outside the Twin Cities.

Price? More handset and carrier choice? Better voice control? Free GPS navigation? Until iOS 5 ships, multi-tasking and notifications on iOS aren't really that great. Another pre iOS 5 limitation, not everyone wants to activate and sync with iTunes.

While Google Maps is technically an app as well (some devices do not preinstall Google apps), the Android phones I use have Google Maps integrated into the out of box experience. That was my reference point. How would a basic user get by with an Android device versus the iPhone?

If your question was different, then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Android works fine and battery life is OK, don't let anyone tell you different. I've had a Droid X for about a year now on VZW and it does everything I need right now. It really depends on how she will use the phone and what she wants to do with it.

Hi! It really depends on the user's needs. you might want to check this out http://mymindstalk.blogspot.com/2011/02/...iased.html It is an unbiased comparison between iPhone and Android. I used it as a guideline and ended up getting an iPhone. Hope this helps!
