thumb drive mount problem
#1
brother has a pqi 4G USB thumb, about a year old.
It came FAT32 (I think). It mounts fine on the home iMac (10 year old AV slot, 400MHz) 10.4.x.
It mounts fine on an XP machine.
It mount fines on a public library iMac of recent vintage and OS (dunno which, but knowing our library system, SL).
It won't mount in Finder on mums iMac 1.8Ghz core duo running SL.
But DU sees it and the machine gives you the "hot USB unplug" message if you unplug w/o dismount via DU.
It needs to see XO and Max OS, which is why I never had my brother change the format.
Here's the odd thing, it use to mount fine on mums iMac under Leo.
What the fsck???
Ideas - other than reformat, at least until my brother has a chance to bu.

Maybe it's hidden behind some other icon. Click on the Finder icon and then see if it appears in the sidebar of the Finder window. Or open a Finder window and view as list.

I constantly had this problem with mounting USB drives on 10.4 and 10.5. Now I get "insufficient power" messages and I have to try different USB ports.

Check the Finder Preferences, the General and Sidebar tabs to make sure that it is setup to show external drives on the Desktop and Sidebar.
