Another reason to mourn Steve's early death

No. Apple is one of the only companies that insists upon constantly changing dongles for everything. Even the dongles they've kept such as the dock connector and Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt connector have changes that make for problematic forward and backwards compatibility.

I love that many of my dock connector devices no longer work because Apple either changed the pin layout on later models or used software locks to charge more for their own overpriced cables (the latter is mostly a reference to dock to video adapters). I also love the fact that buying one of Apple's own video cables is unnecessarily complicated. I have a 2nd gen iPod touch and even though the HDMI and VGA adapters physically fit, my touch is not compatible.

I'd rather have an iPod/iPhone/iPad with an HDMI and micro USB port honestly. I'd rather have a full size DisplayPort on my Macs. Dongles need to go away.

I'm hoping the Thunderbolt port is as stable as the magnetic power connector - something that lasts for a few years and works on all Macs.
