7-Eleven recently updated its refillable/reusable cups....
Hi everyone,
I’ve posted many times about the nifty refillable/reusable cups from 7-Eleven. They’re cheap, dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe and they work well. So well that I don’t bother buying reusable/refillable cups from stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond, REI, etc. At, least the old ones performed that well. I’ve got a collection of them and use one each day to bring coffee to work.
My only issues with the old model is that they didn’t keep coffee warm for a long time and that the hold in the top didn’t have a cover to prevent accidental spills. In reality, these are just nitpicks on my part. Coffee doesn’t last long enough to get cold and, even if it did, I could always heat it up in the microwave. I’ve rarely had a spill with the 7-11 cups, so the lid design isn’t a major issue by any means.
The cups do wear out but, at just $1.99, I don’t care. They last a reasonably good amount of time and are still a great deal. I stopped at a local 7-Eleven to buy some replacements and found they’ve changed to a different type of refillable/reusable cup. Like last time, I was able to get more information about the cup buy checking it out on the OEMs web site.
It’s a Whirley Drink Works 16 oz cup - Model #SC-16 Specialty cup.
I bought one and here are the pros and cons as compared to the previous 7-Eleven reusable cup...
Pros:
The cups are insulated - I can vouch that it does keep coffee warm for a greater length of time. Not much greater, though.
The lid has a cover that slides over the sipping hole, which helps prevent spilling and helps keep coffee stay warm/hot longer
The cup feels lighter
Still dishwasher and microwave safe - Haven’t tested this yet but the OEM lists this as a feature on the site.
Still cheap in comparison to other reusable/refillable coffee cups. $1.99 for the cup (and your first fill of coffee). Works for me!
Cons:
You may need to was the lid by hand due to the nature of the cover that slides over the sipping hole. No dishwasher is going to clean underneath the cover itself. You’ll have to use a little elbow grease to clean it properly. The old design had a cover that flips over the hold. Flimsy but easier to clean.
The depth of the lid from the rim to the sipping hole is a touch too deep for my taste. I prefer the rim depth of the old cups.
The new cup doesn’t feel quite as sturdy as the old model. This may be due to the lighter insulated design. The cup might be just as sturdy as the old ones. Still, at $1.99 for a cup (and your first fill of coffee), it’s still a good deal.
While I prefer the old cups over the new model, these are still a great deal. How can you beat it at $1.99 for the cup and your first fill of coffee?
