Lawsuit calls Microsoft's anti-piracy tool spyware
The lead lawyer representing Johnson in the suit against Microsoft, Scott Kamber of Kamber & Associates LLC in New York, was co-lead counsel for consumers in the lawsuit over Sony Corp.'s surreptitious placement of copy-protection "rootkit" software on PCs, through music CDs. That software, designed to prevent music from being copied illegally, disabled protections against viruses and spyware, potentially leaving unaware computer users vulnerable. Sony settled the suit.

New Windows Genuine Advantage lawsuit
...the new complaint also gets into Microsoft's method of delivering the WGA tool as part of its Automatic Updates system, which is more commonly used for distributing security patches. In addition to seeking unspecified monetary damages, the suit asks the court to require Microsoft to cooperate with antivirus and anti-spyware companies to help them create tools to remove WGA, and offer its own tool for doing the same thing.
Suit filed by David Breskin of the Houck Law Firm, P.S.; Seattle, WA; representing the plaintiffs.
