For my dough they died about Tommy-ish. That's when Townsend started listening to the people who told him he was a "genius".

Before that, they were a killer band that played 3 minute songs, every second of which was important.

"Pictures of Lily", Substitute", "Magic Bus" etc....you compare that to "Who Are You" and the dross that followed. I'm sorry, I've been a Who fan since 1965, by 1970 they were done.

Don't feel bad, a lot of bands nosed over then, the Rolling Stones after "Gimme Shelter" The Faces, etc etc.

Sorry, the red wine speaks!

And if they had stopped after Tommy, they would not only not be my favorite band, but I would probably lump them together with Herman's Hermits, Eric Burdon and the Animals, and 1910 Fruitgum Company in my head.

Well if that's the case, I can't help you.

If you go back and listen to what I was talking about, you will see. A young band, full of piss and vinegar, trying to play harder than the rest and doing a damn good job of it.

How many times had you seen them live by 1969, Black.

If it wasn't three times or more, I can't talk to you, your mind is mush. The Who wasn't a synth band...unless you go for that sort of insipid crap. They were a rock & roll band, with the best drummer of his time playing behind a kit.
