Sorry, I should have explained better. Same OS on both. It's not that the MBP is so slow there's something wrong, It's just I would expect a new i7 to be a lot faster than a 1-generation-old i5 and it's not.

I'll probably buy the RAM now and the SSD at some future date.

I'd love to patronize our sponsor, and I have many times over the years. In this case, unless I'm reading the web pages wrong, that means paying almost 50 percent more. I'd love to learn I'm wrong about that.

I put 16 GB in mine for a little over $100 from OWC. I have the 2.4 ghz i5 and it runs very well now. It is well worth the investment to max the RAM.

I run Adobe CS5, Microsoft Office and the usual Mac apps usually.

OK, I ordered the 16 GB from our sponsor for 149.99 with free shipping via first class mail. I'll report back how much of a boost it appears to be.
