kids itunes account questions
#1
My daughter turns thirteen tomorrow so I'd like to get her setup with her own itunes account. I've read bits and pieces but I'm not exactly sure how everything works so I'm hoping to get advice here.

Setting up the account itself should be easy but it's my understanding it can still be linked to my account with some parental controls, ability to give her an "allowance" of itunes money each month, etc but I'm not sure how to do it.

Also, she has a ton of apps and music on her iphone that I purchased. I'm not sure if I'll need to repurchase those items or if they will continue to work on her iPhone once we setup her own itunes account.

I'm sure many of you have gone down this road already and can give me the down low on how to make the transition. Thanks in advance!

My older son has his own iTunes account and I am able to gift him iTunes gift cards. (I originally set is iPod Touch up with my info, he reset it and created his on account, so essentially he started from scratch)

He was able to log into his own iTunes account with my iPhone and download a game that he paid for to show me it. I was able to use it without any problems after I logged into my iTunes account. I think the only problem she would have is updating the apps. The music shouldnt be a problem, unless she tries to download it to her own itunes account on her computer.

To save the music, burn to disk and hand it to her. Or use TuneClone

Apps from both sources can co-exist and be updated on one iPod. It will actually supply the correct apple ID when the password dialog comes up for whichever app you want to update.

I don't much more; I've just gotten to this stage myself in our family.

I gave up on co-existing and wiped her ios devices and synced with her laptop. It was a pain but it's done.

I never did figure out how to link her account to mine. Again, gave up. I guess she's an adult in Apple's eyes. It had to happen sometime.

This is an area where Apple really falls down. This should be a much much more simple process. I should just be able to push a button on her ios device that says, "I'm 13 now" and have it prompt me to repurchase any apps as necessary. I shouldn't have had to spend hours on a half baked solution.
