Easiest way to get the proper version of Apple mail for 10.5 (Leopard)?
#1
Hi,

I'm trying to move my Eudora 6.2 Email into Apple mail on 10.5.8 (Leopard), so I can migrate to 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion). When I try to launch Apple Mail (version 3.5) in 10.5 I get:
"You cannot use this version of the application Mail.app with this version of Mac OS X".

AFAIK this is the version that came with the OS or was installed by software update.

Three questions:
  • What version of Apple mail do I need for 10.5?
  • Easiest way to get it (don't want to buy a copy of pacifist to get it from the OS DVD, and it might be 3.5 anyway)?
  • Should I (if possible) use a later version to simplify the migration to Mountain Lion, or do later versions seamlessly import the data from earlier versions?

Thanks!

Mitch

Did you happen to move the Mail.app out of the applications folder at some point to another folder?

The solution for 10.6 at least seems to be put it back where it belongs and re-apply the latest combo update and security updates.

If you do a google search on that error message, you'll find that you're not alone.

Hi,

I applied the 10.5.8 combo update (maybe I didn't do the combo update to get to 10.5.8?) and it replaced mail 3.5 with mail 3.6 and it works.

Thanks Everyone!
