Fold out bed?
#1
I have a small room that my daughters use as a tv room. So there is already a couch and tv. It could easily be a guest bedroom on demand if I could find a decent fold out bed that didn't kill everyone's back. I've seen some couches where the back folds down and forms a very firm mattress for a single person but I don't know what it is called. My only other idea would be a folding mattress on some sort of frame.

Futon; a couch where the back folds down to make a bed. They often have rather thin cushioning but, I expect a good quality futon could be found that would provide a decent sleep surface.

A day bed perhaps?

You could pick up an old Conyplex Contest. The settees pull out nearly another foot, and they have pop-up bunk boards to keep you from falling out.
The good: prime Dutch Bruynzeel mahogany cabinetry and fiberglass.
The bad: questionable Swedish and Brit fittings.

Now, admittedly, it would be difficult to put one in a small room. However, setting up in the back yard is doable.

I slept on one similar to this Sleeper Chair at a friends house once and found it very comfortable (can't vouch for this one).

After extensive googling it appears what I want is a Convert-A-Couch. Most fold the back down and form a single size bed. They are basically the same as a futon but sit higher and are more plush, more of a normal couch look. The only negative I have found is that most are very inexpensive which makes me pensive about their quality. Thank you to everyone who helped me look.

Futon smuton I slept on a couch that folded down into a bed for years before the name futon was ever heard. If you like hard mattress great otherwise for more than 2 days is killer.

This - anything else and your guests are restricted to children up to 20 somethings. We replaced out sleeper couch with a day bed.

Also a good replacement for the dog house when you were accidentally right in an argument !
