PCI Simple Communications Controller Driver???
#1
Finally upgraded my school D2C PC to a 64-bit Windows 7 OS. Got all the drivers installed for my Brother HL-2270 DW, Brother HL-2040 and HP LaserJet 1022n. Everything is up and running. Still I have a yellow exclamation mark displayed next to the HHD icon. Don't know what it is I need to do. Any idea? Tia

Need to get 64-bit windows drivers for your motherboard. For most computers you can download drivers from the manufacturer's support website. Is D2C a brand?

You can probably go without upgrading and not notice any difference.

It usually takes three (or more) rounds of driver updates if you installed Win7 yourself. First time you update the chipset, Restart, then you update the embedded controllers, Restart, then you install the drivers for the devices.

It's an HP Compaq dc5800 Microtower.

From the Device Manager get the properties on the missing device (with the yellow exclamation circle.)

Go to the Details tab and select the Hardware IDs dropdown. Make note of the value(s) displayed.

Take the value displayed e.g. PCI\VEN_1234&DEV_ABCD and put that into the search field at http://catalog.update.microsoft.com and cross your fingers.

You can also search for the device at the PCI vendor database but that won't get you drivers that will just give you a clue of where to go to for drivers (e.g. reveal the manufacturer from the vendor codes contained in the hardware ID values.

HP softpaq is a great tool for stock Windows OSes. I clean-installed Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

As for looking up the PCI hardware IDs via MS Update Catalog, I came up empty handed.

The question is do I even need to the driver? Rigt now everything seems to be working fine.
