Where is my iPad Backup?

My friend has an iPad, but no computer and we were hoping to have a hard copy backup. If we get an external hard drive and I back it up to my computer, where would I find the backup to transfer to the external?

Sorry of this has been covered, I couldn't find it.

I'm pretty sure it's stored in ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices. I would dbl check with get info.
Be aware that this backup will not include music, photos/vids, books and applications. Those will be stored in their respective locations.
I would make a user in the external drive, and keep everything there... and have their own AppleID.
It seems that iCloud backup works well, and keeps up to 1000 photos backed up.
