Can I install 10.4 over a later OS

I tried using the IP address from the printer but the Mac doesn't recognize the printer. It keeps telling me I can't find it when I try to add it in the print window in System Preferences.

Is the printer connected to your router via Ethernet?

What IP address does the printer use?

Is that address in the same range that your computers use?

Did you set the subnet mask on your printer to 255.255.255.0 ...?
