I actually like the 5s as a phone, even if I would never buy one. Too pricey and not quite the right mix for how I use my phone. But I can appreciate good tech when I see it. The iPhone 5s isn't perfect, but it is far from the worst phone on the market. I would argue the value is still too low, as with most high end smartphones. Many users are buying far more smartphone than they need and still upgrading in a year or two anyway.

I would love for Apple to go three models of phone. Small, medium, and large. Roughly the same specs across models (pixel density, not matching esolution would matter for the screen), just down to size preference. Say $350, $500, and $650 starting price. 16GB minimum space. 2GB RAM. Decent camera. Not going to happen of course.

my wife hates technology. HATES it. it usually doesn't work well for her.

she does want a larger iPhone, though. visual artist and all that. not a pocket carrier.

64-bit OS with 1GB RAM. Woo, wee, now we're cooking!!!

I know you're not that naive.

Right?

No, seriously, the iPhone 5s benchmarks well, but the 64-bit isn't a big deal in a vacuum. In a few years, this will be a big deal. Right now, it sure reads like speeds and feeds Steve Jobs claimed didn't matter.

…and that's why Apple's competitors are killing themselves trying to match this "gimmick."

No one is killing themselves to match the 64bit ARM chip in the iPhone. When the 64-bit chips are ready and at the right price points, the other manufacturers will add them. Android will be 64-bit eventually as well. Probably sooner, rather than later given the amount of RAM shipping in top of the line Android phones. Even so, the top end non 64-bit Android phones don't fair to badly against the iPhone 5s. I have no idea about the newest iPhones???

P.s. I never called the 5s chipset a gimmick.
