Used macbook or macbook air for daughter
#1
I am looking for a used macbook or macbook air for my daughter to use at her high school. She has a few online classes and it would be helpful to have a computer at school. I would like it to at least run Mavericks, preferably Yosemite.

They use some sort of Google documents to do and store work.

I have found a few mid 2009 MacBooks for around $300. One is $375 with 8 gig ram and 500. It seems like a decent deal.

What versions of the Macbook should be avoided? I read something about 2011 had some problems?

What about macbook air? Any versions to avoid?

I'd budget for adding a SSD.

I suites with 2011 were 15" MBPs, not 13" or MBAs.

Then why bother with a Macbook?

At our high school they're issuing Chromebooks in the fall since everything is to be done online via Google.

Not really sure other than we have had really good luck with Macbook pros that we have had. Plus the whole apple ecosystem with iCloud and iPhones.

I can look into the chrome book .

I would go MacBook Air. They are much less prone to breakage than the MacBook or MacBook Pro. It is counter intuitive, but every K12 I have worked with has seen dramatic decreases in repairs in going from the MacBook/MacBook Pro to the Air.

The White plastic unibody MacBooks in particular seem to have a lot of problems. And I would avoid any of the earlier white MacBooks as well.

Look for a 2011+ MBA.

MacBook Air. Great Battery, Lighter, works great, still works with Google Docs.
