Where can I go to compare various OEM Mac Pro cards?
#1
I am upgrading a Mac Pro 1.1 to OS 10.10 and will be going dual quad 3.0 processors, but I need to upgrade the video card as well. Where can I compare the options? 512 MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 vs 512 MB ATI Radeon X1900 XT vs Geforce 8800 GT

Or any other ideas any of you have?

If you are hacking that Pro to run 10.10 you might as well just run a PC video card.

8800 GT is the best.

It took a while to find something that went back to 2007.

Apple had their own test but it favored the Quadro 4500 for DTP over games.

Can you fill me in more on those?

Put a PC one in and you'll loose the boot screen, but the rest is pretty normal. Maybe you need to run the actual Nvidia supplied drivers too. I've been doing it for a few months. Works fine. Depending on your goals, any of these should work fine https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/sop/6136053388.html

The 5770 works in a Mac Pro 1,1 and shows the boot screen (if it's the Mac version). Plus, if I'm not mistaken, it's way faster than the others you listed.

If you're going to use an unsupported Nvidia card, I would jump to a newer generation (newer than the ones you and Mavic listed) but not the newEST. Maybe something like a GT730/GT740/GTX750, etc. (Note: I think a card like that will work in that machine but I'm not positive; the idea popped into my head because of their recommendation for Hackintosh stuff and those cards are very affordable, fast and relatively low power.)

FWIW, I agree with AllGold. The only reason I posted that CL listing is because it's mine and I'll give him one Smile

LOL!

I thought your prices were good, though.
