Mac's Mail just ate my iCloud account
#1
Not sure what happened... OK, maybe it had something to do with trying out a new iPhone device...

Came back to my Mac after sleeping it a couple days, and Mail for my primary iCloud account came up almost blank. About a dozen messages from more than a decade ago. Nothing else.

Huh, I thought, that's funny. Unchecked it in iCloud and rechecked it, and now it's downloading "everything" again. Only I don't have hours to wait for all that mail to come through, so I fully expect it to get out of sync and messed up again. Not sure what could have happened to cause this beyond registering a temporary new iOS devices with my iCloud account.

Doesn't seem like it should have impacted my longest registered device - it certainly didn't affect my other iOS device in any way.

Stuff like this, which should "just work", puts me in agony because I do want to move off Apple's platform but view the alternatives as just as bad.

If you setup apple mail on your new iphone and hit the wrong sync settings, its possible to make a mess.

Im not trying to defend apple in any way, but "just works" is long gone -- not necesarily because of apple, but the user. We have to come expect our devices to do so much that they have forgotten how to do the easy things sometimes. And all those complicated things are complicated to do now.
