Apple has historically selected the server-class XEON processors for the MacPros, so I would be surprised to see them in the new box.

This is a Xeon slightly reworked and rebranded as a Core i-series chip. They waited for AMD to show it's Ryzen cards (with 3, 5, and 7 branding, just like Intel) and then Intel announced that we've got a 9!

Up next: AMD Spinal Tap Edition— it goes to 11.

I don't see where that would be useful unless you were doing finite element analysis or DNA coding. What would you need that for? I would be more impressed if they were doing that on GPUs.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/tesla-p100.html

"The new NVIDIA Pascal™ architecture enables the Tesla P100 to deliver the highest absolute performance for HPC and hyperscale workloads. With more than 21 TeraFLOPS of FP16 performance, Pascal is optimized to drive exciting new possibilities in deep learning applications. Pascal also delivers over 5 and 10 TeraFLOPS of double and single precision performance for HPC "

Seems like GPU is the cracker's tool de jour.
