Application for Archiving Apple (Mac) Mail?
#1
Some time ago, a few years maybe, someone posted a link to an application that would enable you to archive your Mail in a readable format (not just a text M-box), one that would not be dependent on any particular version of Mail and could be read by a number of text readers.

Anyone know what that was?

Never mind; found it in this thread:

The program is called Email Archiver, recommended by Drew,

This one archives as PDF format, about as universal as text I would think.

This one saves email as PDFs, including attachments. Of course alternative options welcome.

MrLynn,

I haven't used Email Archive in a while but it did the job nicely at the time. I've got a newer version of it and have been meaning to do an archive run but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Updated link here. Thanks for posting. I wish I had known this a couple years ago.

One complication: The current version requires OS 11. I'm running 9.5. I asked about previous versions, and got this response:

Version 3.4.0 should work with OS X 10.9 and can be downloaded below.

It will run in 5 minute intervals without requiring a key so you can try it to make sure it works before you buy it.

To use it you will need to purchase the most recent version and the key will work with the older versions and you will be able to use the same key when you upgrade to a new OS.

We do not fully support the older versions. While we can provide some assistance with setup any additional bug fixes are done to the latest version which requires 10.11 or up.

One known issue is a change to handle changes google made to their authentication services. While this has been fixed in the older versions will disconnect after a while and need to be re-authenticated to continue archiving.

Which I guess is OK. If I dare to install an SSD in my late-2009 iMac, then I might update the OS. But not until then. Fortunately, I don't use Google for email, so maybe that won't be a problem.

EDIT: Went ahead and bought the program, after trying it for a few minutes. It seems to work smoothly and intuitively. PDFs look better than the original emails! Attachments print, too, and also (in tiny type) detailed header information. $40 for personal use (5 email addresses). So far I am quite pleased.

The temptation will be to put it off until you've gone through and weeded the dross out. But that's an incentive to do the weeding, too.
