Magic Mouse Not Working after SSD Transplant
#1
My late-2009 27" iMac is running well after I installed its new SSD from OWC (and after I had to reinstall the wire bundle because of a bad drive sensor—thanks for the diagnosis, Jamie!).

But, the Bluetooth Magic Mouse doesn't want to connect. I've gotten it to work a couple of times by putting in fresh batteries, restarting both computer and mouse, but mostly it won't connect.

Did I jiggle some cable or something? It always worked fine until I stopped using the iMac last December.

Do other bluetooth devices work, or just the Magic Mouse giving issues? I've had a couple Magic Mice die over the years....

If you have another computer at your disposal, try pairing it with that one too.

Hmm... I did such a transplant for a 2012 13" MBP and also have Bluetooth problems. My BT mouse often disconnects from the MBP. Sometimes it works fine, like now, but other times not at all. Apple support says it may be caused by my nearby wireless phone or my router or even my cable modem.

FWIW, USB3 devices often interfere with Bluetooth.

Just brought the original Magic Mouse downstairs, and my new iMac saw it right away.

Reversed the test and took the new Magic Mouse2 upstairs. Old iMac did not see it.

So I conclude the problem is with the old iMac, not the mice.

So how could swapping the HDD for an SSD have interfered with the Bluetooth mouse? Or did something else change?

BUT WAIT. . . (drum roll, please)

My wife's iPad Air2 was about five feet from the old iMac. I removed it to an adjacent room. . .

And now the MM works!

Score one for JEBB and Apple Support (and minus one for Apple making devices that rely on Bluetooth and then making devices that turn it off!).

I changed the 2.4 channel on my Airport extreme from 1 to 3 and now the BT mouse seems to work as it should. Hopefully it will continue to do so.
More: Channel 7 was selected after the BT signal was dropped.
