Salt free water conditioner

Anybody have any experience with these "magnetic" water conditioners. They don't remove the minerals, but apparently they keep scale from forming. Sounds suspicious, but a lot of folks swear by them.

Not looking for theorizing, please--just looking for someone who has experience, pro or con, with them.

I don't believe the "scale blaster" water conditioners work for most water problems.

I have seen electrically powered industrial water softeners that I would expect to be cost effective when compared to reverse osmosis. The problem is they require a little too frequent maintenance for most home owners and I'm not sure they are safe for human consumption.
