Speaking as someone who for years used a MacBook Pro as a desk-bound computer with an external display and separate keyboard/mouse, this could easily work as a full Mac setup for someone with basic computing needs. Pair it with a Rain Stand and you've got a killer two-screen desktop. (from EveryMac: features a Mini DisplayPort that supports an external display at 2560x1600)

Thanks Zoidberg, that is the model. Also a brilliant idea re: external monitor. I just hooked one up, works great. Yes, a good use for this MBP.
