Had uncles on both sides of the family fall off ladders.
One shattered both ankles, the other both wrists.

Am I too old and busted up to be working on my roof ?

I'M 60 and my roof climbing days are over. I'll hire out anything that involves going up ladders and working on roofs. (this from a guy who had to do some crazy chit on roofs while doing building maintenance at a huge auto assembly complex).
OTOH, my 86 year old Pop talks crazy and scares the hell out of me. He constantly mentions about going up a ladder to change a bulb on a security light, doing work on the roof, etcetera. He still thinks he's 30, and I'm constantly telling him "NOOO!!!!" when he starts up with that nonsense. Did I say he scares the hell out of me? ![]()

The only way I'd even consider doing that job would be if I was in good enough physical condition (sounds like a "no" for cbelt), if someone was holding the base of the ladder the entire time I was up (or I had a properly anchored scaffold), if I had roof jacks set up for the "on the roof" work, and had a properly anchored OSHA-compliant safety harness and shock cord. Otherwise, fuhgedaboudit! |
