speaking about Apple ID: how do you change it???

I have an Apple ID associated with some almamatter.edu address. I have those emails forwarded to gmail. It worked fine, but several years ago google decide those were SPAM. I think this happened when almamatter switched from their own servers to outlook since all emails say from almamatter.edu via outlook.com

Anyway. I'd like to chage my Apple ID. I think there is a way to do it, but I am scared to even try it. I have all my devices here (4 Macs, 5 iPhones, 2 iPads), but I also use my Apple ID on my Dad's and my Mother-in-law MacBook Air. I am the admin on those macs. They are in a different country, different time zone. I am afraid Apple will want me to change something on those machines, and I can't do that remotely.

I asked the genius lady at the Apple Store and she said all I had to do was to change the address on my iPhone. I don't believe it is that easy.

It's fairly easy. You log into your account at appleid.apple.com, click on the "Edit" button on the right in the "Account" section, scroll down to the "Reachable At" section and click "Add More". You then add your new address that you want to use. Once it is confirmed, you can go back back toe "Edit" section and select "Change Apple ID..." and you can then select from all of your confirmed email addresses.

EDIT: You may have to re-authorize all the devices if you choose to remove the old email address. You can keep it on the account as I don't think it affects anything.

Last time I googled this, yo had to log out of ALL your apple devices, and like I said, some of those are abroad.

Good luck. This has been a bane for me for years. In the end, and a full day on the phone with Apple tech support, we have one central AppleID and everyone has their own and separate individual AppleID.

As sekker says, each person should really have their own AppleID for Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, etc. But if you want to share purchased media and apps, then all users can sign into one AppleID for the iTunes and App Store that 'owns' all the media. The other option is to use Family Sharing, but it is limited to six users and may not work for all situations.

We all have different IDs. We are 4, plus 2 parents. 6 different IDs. We use family sharing.

I only want to change my ID.

When I looked into this in the past, it seemed very complicated. So I never did it. Now it seems reasonable.
