Time Machine backup prior to Nuke n Pave?

I posted last week about an issue with I-net connectivity and some general funkiness with the OS. It would seem I got myself a virus somehow. Since I am not completely invested in this OS (10.13.6) and don't have many applications loaded anyhow, I thought the simplest thing would be to NnP so I can get back to 0.

But would backing up what files I do have play nicely with the reinstalled OS (once I do that)?

I am looking to save files, not applications, so how would this change my backup strategy?

Do a time machine back AND full copy with CCC - that what I do before I wipe a drive clean.

But reading your previous posts, I didn't see any indication that you had a virus.

I am pretty certain that Safari is munged. From a virus: maybe. It can't really be anything else, I imagine? I tried updating it, and it finally updated after about 10 attempts and didn't solve the dropped connection issue. Firefox (when I was finally able to d/l it, has been running OK) but I want to keep Safari on this machine hence the NnP.

I recently had LOTS of "weirdness" on Safari (fucking pRon....). MULTIPLE runs of Malwarebytes and etreCheck say machine is clean but, Safari runs VERY slowly with LOTS of spinning beachballs. Firefox seems OK. :dunno:

Same as testcase, but my connection dies after a certain amount of time, too, so I don't know if it's the os or the application. Like I said, it's quicker to just move to the NnP rather than spend more hours than i already have on this issue.
