why no surge in Texas?
#11
I think it's a lot more complex than folks here who just see a red state and automatically predict how bad a possible outbreak will be because of X

I think saying that people see it as a red state is oversimplifying why they might expect a surge by now.

Things like a sold out rodeo, a huge biker convention, spring break celebrations, baseball games, etc., are the sources of concern.

That they are allowed by the respective states' governments is another, but related, matter.

I don't want to see surges, as that means people's welfare is now in danger, as opposed to potentially endangered.

Not sure I expressed that clearly enough, but close enough.

I do suspect that a lot of people want to see evidence of a surge to say 'I told you so' to the I Told You So party.

Right-wingers are now throwing that argument back at the blue state leadership, "see, it's only blue states that are surging, lockdowns and mask wearing are not effective. Texas and Florida have opened up with no mandates and everything is fine there."

Yep. And the ultra-stupid are acting as if mask wearing is causing the surge.

When this all started, the Trump administration purposely did things that would let the virus spread because at the time, it was blue states that were having problems. They weren't smart enough to figure out that those blue states just happened to be where the virus came into the country.
