Got Neighbors DSL working again, but boy her computer is slow!!
#1
Spent about an hour on the phone with Verizon in some foreign country.

Lady was very nice, and we had to rebuild the DHCP connection settings.

This computer had NORTON installed but expired. Don't know if it was doing it or something else, but computer was saying the "Settings were dangerous for security, and we should fix them".

She was using MSN to log on, and using a personal start page.

What can I have her do, to increase the speed of the computer. It runs very very slow. Tech support had us rt click on Norton and disable for a while.

Thanks...

oh, and I told her she should switch to Firefox.

I would delete (un-install) Norton, but that's me.

This PC was "faster" before ?

Using helper apps like MSN or anything like that to log-on is not necessary in my opinion, and can slow things down. Why not just use firefox to go online?

Yeah, Win95b can be like that on a 60 MHz Pentium if you do not clear out the temp files every couple of months.

When you say "computer," are you referring to a device running Windows? If so, then you need to use quotations too.

Uninstall Norton, go to Symantec's website, dl and run Norton Removal tool. Download and run AdaWare and Spybot to remove all the malware. Install free AVG anti virus software and you should be good to go.
