Problem Capturing in FCP-showing no timecode

I'm trying to log clips in FCP 4.5 using a canon zr40 and FCP isn't seeeing any Time Code for any of the tapes. I can't set an in or and out or will it even capture using "Capture Now". I've never had this problem. What could cause this?

It sounds like you have a head clog. try a cleaner tape or switch the capture settings to non controlable device to at least get the video in.

Well I've tried two decks with the same result. How do you set it to "non controlable device" And I'm guessing I'll have no timecode then after capture? BTW, I did trash my prefs with no fix.

go to log and capture (apple-8) then on the upper right click capture settings, its now set to firewire ntsc, change it to non controllable device
