Someone has to show leadership since the USA has failed so badly

There is no "will" to do so with a regime like the one in Iran that can't be trusted - They lie. All the time. They're not interested in peace, they're interested in getting Israel to go back into acceptance mode so they can continue their back-channel support of all these terrorists without challenge.

Palestine has long been a “useful idiot” in the proxy war that has been fought since 1948 by larger enemies. Sponsorship and military support has been the currency of chaos for the intervening years and across generations. Removal of support of the Palestinian organizations is the key here.

Coundn't hurt. Iran and every other country is calling for some kind of agreement to happen now.

From the article in the OP: "This possibly-illusory diplomatic offer is a long overdue off-ramp."
I agree with this. It is a long over-due off ramp. I also agree that based on the factual substance of the article that this is a "possibly-illusory diplomatic offer". If it is real, then I think it's likely a sign that Iran doesn't want things to escalate too much farther and is sending out feelers for maybe, maybe, maybe there could be the start of negotiations. Diplomatic baby-steps. Intentions matter a lot, though. If the Iranians are developing a will to find a diplomatic way out of this mess, then that is good. But... why would the Iranians be doing this now? Like every other country, they aren't doing things simply out of the graciousness of their hearts. What's in it for them? Are they sufficiently worried that things will escalate too far? What signs are there that this the case? I, myself, haven't seen any of those signs. So, count me skeptical on this because if Iran doesn't have the will to make compromises, then this isn't a real opportunity.

On the other hand, The U.S. bombed Germany and Tokyo back to the stone age. Finished them. We probably wouldn't even be sitting here if that didn't happen. Maybe we get "forever wars" because they don't get ended. Just thinkin' out loud. |
