AOL odd behavior on Mac....
#1
I have following computers:

Mac Mini G4: OS X (latest version)
Wired access to LAN

MacBook Pro Intel: OS X (latest version), XP (with bootcamp)
Airport access to LAN

Dell GX260: XP
Wired and wifi access to LAN

I just installed a new Linksys Cable Gateway (modem/router/wifi combo) and installed it over the weekend. When trying to access AOL from the Windows software, I connect with no problem. But on both Macs, I get time out errors with no connections. Not certain if it is coincidence or not with the installation of the new Linksys device.

Went and reloaded AOL on the MacBook Pro, no change. Not sure how to delete preferences -- but odd to see same issue on two different Macs at the same time. Seems to me when playing with MacBook Pro settings in AOL connections that it was stuck on BlueTooth selections. (???) If you need more detail on this, will provide it later when I get home.

Any thoughts? (I already know some will say to get rid of AOL)

Had the same problem with my Bosses Mac about 2 years ago.

Never resolved it that day but my guess was it had something to do with Windows taking over the connection and installing some type of cookie or DLL that made the situation similar to if you were trying to sign on with the same screen name while that screen was already signed on (EXCEPT you don't get the message).

I'm not sure if this was the case, but it was my best guess as far as what was happening,

I think he called AOL a day or two later and they talked him through it (after a while).

I never understood the utility of AOL even when everyone had one. I didn't know they were still around.
