In my experience, unless you are willing to take less money, say your price is firm. The first few times that I posted items, whatever price I picked, I got emails asking to sell whatever I was selling for less. Also, everything I sell, I state that it is pickup (meaning no shipping) and cash only. This will clear the people that are not serious about doing business with you.

Less is more. State the bare minimum of what you're selling. If it's a high dollar item (a car or nice computer), serious buyers will make contact.

Since this is our first sale venture, the test-drive item is our lit' cousin's 6 month old wet suit for 4 year olds. If successful with small items we will move onto large ones.
What about personal safety? I have read somewhere that sellers have been robbed.

Respond to emails !
I buy & sell quite a few things and I am amazed at the number of people that do not respond to basic questions (info that should have been listed) I find I can sell stuff quickly if it is fairly priced and I respond quickly. If I'm selling and I get a reply on a response, I will give them my cell phone number. The majority of the times these are the real buyers. and if you do sell something PULL THE AD !

Not a problem with email correspondence. How much should an excellent condition StringRay wet suite be sold? We want to be fair. Giving out cell phone number instead of a house phone? Pulling the ad after I receive a confirmation from a buyer or after s/he picks up the item?

No idea what the wet suit is worth - sorry
I usually give cell first because many times I'm dealing with higher dollar items so it gives me a chance to get a feel for the buyer before me set up a meet - no use in telling someone where the good are until I know that the buyer is fairly serious - not foolproof but has worked for me. When you "post" the ad by using the confirmation email that you need to reply to in order to activate it, there is also an edit and delete option - delete the ad once the item is sold |
