What video format to capture PowerPoint on PC with Camtasia 4 - then burn DVD in iDVD 6?

F/U to my post:
http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/292...msg-292155

I decided to simplify my tradeshow setup a bit more and passed on the Tivisto for the Toshiba 19HLV87 19" LCD TV / DVD Player Combination:

I got a good deal from B&H - 4 TVs @ $449.99 each so I am set there.

Now I'm trying some different things in order to burn looping video DVDs in iDVD. Have iSquint and ffmpegX to try per some googling if conversion is necessary and also found this advice on getting video over to iDVD:

Has anybody used Camtasia's video output in iDVD? Any advice that might help speed up the process is greatly appreciated.

TIA
JoeM

as long as it is in DV format you can edit in iDVD...

Camtasia outputs .avi for use in DVD creation which doesn't have the right header to use in iDVD, from what I read. I tried it and it doesn't work.

Open the PPT file in Keynote. Adjust any transitions if necessary. Export to QuickTime movie, PPT, PDF, Images, Flash, iDVD, or HTML.

If you don't have iWork '06, download the 30-day demo and do all your conversion with it.

If you want to create a DV file for maximum editablity in iMovie/iDVD, export to QuickTime (Self-Playing Movie, not Interactive Slideshow) with a Custom... format. Choose "DV/DVCPRO - NTSC" on the Settings... (unless PAL is your standard in which case you would choose one of the PAL ones).

The only pitfall is if your PPT on Windows uses embedded media that cannot play on the Mac. Since your previous thread mentions saving out to JPEGs as an option you were exploring, I suspect you won't have any problems with this.

Great, thanks! I'll grab the 30 day trial. The PPTs are very simple. I just installed OfficeX and tried to save to movie in PowerPoint but on trying to save, PowerPoint just crashes. (Ah, MS you really bite the big weenie! Smile )

Just a warning --- you may want to budget for purchasing iWork. There is a very real danger of you falling in love with Keynote.

Oh yeah, I know Smile actually I can output to .mov in Camtasia so I now have that part.

I have iLife at home, just need to get a test done in work before shipping the LCD TVs so if I can get a trial of iLife I am good.

I can't seem to find a free trial anywhere online. Could you point me to it?

Thanks!

Oops. I think I was too hasty in recommending the download. It is very likely that they don't offer the trial version as a download. Due to the extensive templates for both programs in iWork '06, it is distributed on DVD. Installed it takes up 2GB.

The free trial is preinstalled on new Mac computers and comes on a separate DVD in your iLife'06 package. So if you have purchased iLife '06, look inside the box for the Trial iWork '06 DVD.
