G4 Mini - 32 mb video -- anyone have problems with theirs?
#1
I connected an Envision EN7750, and while they look great, I could never get the color and brightness out of it I EXPECTED.

Then... I started seeing scan lines on the LCD - slight gray against the dull white, sort of like some kind of two tone spreadsheet paper of computer paper for invoices.

I contacted service, and they asked me a few Qs. I would NEVER have suspected the Mini, with so little use, but I hooked it up to...... THE PISMO --- and the damn monitor jumped out of its skin -- bright whites, great contrast, everything PERFECT except for only being able to run at thousands of colors while running the Pismo screen in millions.

Plugged back into Mini (via DVI to VGA adapter) - and I get grayish.....blah.... with lines.

What's going on with this? This is the ATI 32mb video that was in iBooks, etc. Perhaps not great, but compared to what I'm used to, should have been fantastic.......

Is there a known Mini video issue for the 1st series of 1.42 G4s????

It's the adapter. You need to get a monitor with a straight DVI connection.

My sister had the same problem with hers when connected to a Sony monitor through DVI-VGA, bought a 20" Dell UltraSharp and the thing is bright and sharp as can be!

I do recall that there was a issue that the video VGA output was supposedly lower than specs for some Mac Minis. This did cause dim video output for some Minis when connected to VGA monitors. My son has the 1.33ghz version of the G4 mini. He has never had any of the video problems you mentioned with either a VGA (CRT) or DVI (LCD) monitor. Good Luck!

I'll give the DVI cable a try, since I know that they can be had for less than the $50 BestBuy wants at 1000 different ebay stores.

Thanks!

I think this is what you want, a DVI-A to VGA cable for about $12 shipped.
