Any Cerwin-Vega (vintage) speaker afficianodos here?

I have a pair of CV PD-15 speakers I bought about 20 years ago. I need to sell them because I will be moving to an apartment from a house and they are too big.

My Google-fu is weak here and I can't really find anything similar. They have a horn tweeter & midrange and a 15" cone woofer. I am trying to set a price and hoped someone might have an idea of their value.

In my Google searches, I did come across mentioning of "re-foaming" of old speakers. Is this necessary after a long period? The speakers still sound fine to me.





P.S. Trust me; I am not trying to sell these here (unless CJsNvrUrly is interested ). These things are friggin' heavy and shipping costs are likely more than the speakers are worth.

I have two Cerwin Vega in the Garage. Heavy big suckers. I had them re coned by the lady that use to do Disney speakers, years ago. Bought them at Gemco here in Southern California.

Not sure how to dispose of them as well. They seem like great enclosures, but may need to have the cones rebuilt again.

The cones generally only need re-foaming if the foam is starting to flake, crumble, or get brittle. Take the grill off and put a sheet of white paper under the speaker, then gently rub and pinch the foam surround. If it does not spring black, it is getting close. It is past time if anything flakes off.

The old CV speakers had a good reputation for loud R&R. Not so much for classical. They were usually much more efficient/sensitive than average. If you can give me the exact year you bought them, I might be able to look up the original list price. You can look it up yourself if you have a library near you with a comprehensive microfiche file. The October issue of Audio magazine had a list of most products from every major manufacturer. Just go to the year before you bought them and look in the Speaker section.

i have a huge cerwin vega subwoofer that sounded muffled, turns out the foam had rotted away which no longer held the cone properly...
