Was last night the Steve Martin SNL?
#1
I know he hasn't hosted the show since, what, 1991 (The "Not Gonna Phone It In Tonight" opener). Was last night the show he hosted? (Assuming so, with that "Pink Panther" opening this weekend.)

Pretty funny.

It was funny, but it was a little sad in a way as it seemed the majority of skits were about him being older than everyone else in a subtle (or not so subtle) way.
The zoom-in theater (or whatver it was called) was very good though-- classic SCTV-type comedy. It says something that I can remember it a week later . . .

This site has a few clips from the Steve Martin SNL:

The first sketch is my favorite from this season, "Two A-holes Buy A Christmas Tree". It stars two featured players Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig---they both are very talented. The sketches from Steve Martin's episode are:

SNL: The Tangent (digital short)
SNL: Don't Buy Stuff You Cannot Afford
SNL: Close Talker (digital short)
SNL: Teddy Bear Holding a Heart (commercial parody)
SNL: Steve Martin vs Alec Baldwin (monolog segment)

The Zoom in Theater? It's one joke, beat into the ground. And they do the zoom-in with every punch line in those awful Debbie Downer skits, so it's an old joke.

The whole episode was bad. The whole season has been bad. I don't mind all the digital shorts, since the original SNL had short films. But a taped opening? Oy.

But good Lord, did Prince rock the house on his first song or what?

Steve Martin's interview on Letterman was hilarious.

Overall I didn't think the show was all that great, but the "Teddy Bear Holding a Heart" commercial had me in stitches.
