So is is 'cool' to act like you belong to a vicious criminal enterprise?
How could one not know this in this day and age. Just depending on the neighborhood, posing can be worse than stupid. I live in a area with actual gangs (Nortenos and Surenos are the two most visible) and the resultant violence. Most people, kids included, don't play at being associated.

I know a bit about gangs (enought to know that fritz is describing the birth of the folk and people nations, which as BGR pointed out did not start with mexican gangs, and enough to think of my local gang as my "home team" when I see their tags) but I don't really know if the sign the OP described is a real gang sign, or just something some hollywood type started in music video land. I imagine it would be "kings" were it real.
