Buying new MacBook - Parallels vs VMware Fusion
#11
Fusion on Leopard 2.8GHz iMac with XP. Works fine.

One dislike: On my setup, Fusion commandeers the iSight and printer for XP, and won't let Leopard use either while it's running. I have to reboot and not start VM Fusion to get them back in Leopard. Not sure if this is normal, but is a fact in my case.

Parallels user here. However...

If you are running Tiger...with the latest security updates...with the latest build of Parallels...dragging and dropping from the Mac OS to windows will not work. And Parallels has no intention of fixing it, b/c its Apple's fault.

[quote M A V I C]Testing is on hold. Adobe said no to some test software as I didn't have an established review site I was doing this for. Parallels gave me a review kit that apparently gives guidelines for testing. I've contacted VMWare for the same but they have not responded. So right now the testing is on hold while I review Parallel's materials. I don't want to run the testing and ignore any stability/performance suggestions they may have. It will also help me isolate variables in the testing.

Since Parallels has also provided me with a contact there to work with, I'm also asking for their feedback on some of my preliminary test results - even though it contradicts the claims on their site.

I'll still have it done by the end of the month.
Contact Low End Mac and tell Dan you want to write a one off review, small series or whatever. If he gives you the okay, turn around and contact Adobe again. Alternately, you could try Matt over on AppleSwitcher.com. He'd probably enjoy such a series as you've proposed. I don't want to put words in Matt's mouth so feel free to PM me your email and I'll pass it along.

I'm interested in how Linux performs under these products. Anyone using either with Ubuntu or another distro?

Try the little USB icons along the bottom of the Fusion window.

Thanks. I already have some promotion from one Mac-related site that has a large email newsletter subscription base. Where ever it's publicized must have a track record of reviews and "It is Adobe's policy not to ship reviews copies of software to non-established media outlets."

AS wouldn't qualify. LEM would, but I would probably have to put the article on their site whereas I would like to have it on my blog - that would help establish it for down the road.

Well, if you did decide to use LEM, I believe the policy is that you control copyright. You should be able to dual post your review to both LEM and your own blog. Also, if you really wanted you could pull your LEM version after 30 or 60 days. I forget which.
