Anyone bought any ebooks from someplace like Peachpit?

I bought 6 right before New Years. Downloaded as:

ebx.etd
ebx-1.etd
ebx-2,etd
etc...

Double-clicking those instigated a long process, including downloading a java app from Adobe called Digital Editions, having that app take forever to download .pdf versions of the books, then having a loop ensue where I couldn't get them validated. ^&$*%($!!!

I've emailed Peachpit support, but no reply yet. Anyone here have a clue as to how to get out of this conundrum?

It probably requires Windows, or the 1 Mac guy working on it has bad gas or something like that.
