Reminder: Sync your iPhone before you update it
#1
Before you update your iPhone, sync it. And you should make sure your iTunes is up to date.

I had iTunes 7.4, and it offered to update my wife's iPhone. It didn't work, though, and the iPhone was stuck in Recovery Mode until I updated to the latest version of iTunes. And then, of course, it had to erase the phone, and then _s_l_o_w_l_y_ sync it all back. Since I didn't sync it first, everything she had added to her phone's calendar/contacts since the last sync is gone.

It's not a real big deal for me, but I was a bit surprised that iTunes didn't back up the phone before updating it. And I was surprised that the update went sour. I guess Apple wasn't expecting the update process to screw iPhones up, either. But it happens.

I would assume iPod Touch owners should sync before updating, as well. Then again, they shouldn't have any problems, right? That must be what the $20 is for.

I did just that, sync before updating. I remember being on the bus saying to myself "I can't wait to get home and update my firmware." Good thing I didn't say that out loud.
